Floor Heating

Underfloor heating. A popular and energy efficient modern heating solution. What water temperatures are needed to keep a room warm using underfloor heating? Typically, the answer from an installer is "low". Actually, it depends. And it depends on quite a few factors. Building insulation and consequently building specific heat losses are one of the most important factors to consider. Poor insulation means higher temperatures, and maybe even to the point that the underfloor heating alone isn't enough to keep the building warm. Insulation below the underfloor heating pipes has a very large impact on heat losses in the downward direction from the underfloor heating pipes. Floor covering will also have an impact to the required water temperature; a covering with a larger thermal resistance, like wood or carpet, will result in a higher required water temperature than tiles, for example. So, the answer to the question "What water temperature is needed to keep a room warm?" will vary somewhere between 24 and 45 degrees Celsius. Use the Floor Heating iOS application to find out a more accurate answer.

The application will also calculate the needed number of pipe loops, calculate pressure drops, and provide a note when required temperatures might be too high and additional heating will be needed.
